Help Shape the Future of Public Libraries in Your Parish

The Jamaica Library Board invites applications from committed, civic-minded individuals to serve on Parish Library Committees across Jamaica’s thirteen (13) Parish Library Networks.Established under Section 14(1) of the Jamaica Library Service Act, Parish Library Committees provide governance-level oversight on behalf of the Board, helping to strengthen public libraries as centres of learning, literacy, culture, innovation, and community development.As Jamaica’s libraries continue to evolve, Parish Library Committees will play an increasingly important role in supporting literacy, digital inclusion, youth engagement, community partnerships and local development initiatives. Committee members will contribute to the Board’s strategic vision for strengthening library services and ensuring that libraries remain responsive to the needs of their communities.

Committee Members Help to:

  • Provide governance oversight for the Parish Library Network.
  • Support library development initiatives and strategic growth.
  • Champion community engagement by advocating for responsive library programmes and services.
  • Promote compliance with the Jamaica Library Service Act, Board policies and Government regulations.
  • Oversee prudent financial stewardship of library resources.
  • Support the welfare and development of library staff.

Service Expectations

Parish Library Committee membership is a voluntary public service role. Committee members are expected to participate actively in meetings and support initiatives that advance library development within their parish.

  • Curriculum vitae or résumé
  • Two character references (Justice of the Peace, Attorney-at-Law, Police Superintendent or above)
